Junshan Silver Needle
Buds from Junshan island, smothered after firing so they yellow slowly. Delicate and sweet with a fresh-corn note. Almost none of the edge of a green tea.

Wei Shan Mao Jian is yellowed like the other Hunan yellow teas and then dried over pine, which is unusual for the category and gives it a smoky top note closer to a light Lapsang than to anything green. Under the smoke the tea is fresh and mild, with the sweet corn character yellow tea always carries. The combination is easier to place than a pure yellow tea, which is why it works well as an introduction. Eighty-five degrees and three minutes; the smoke fades over successive steeps and the sweetness comes forward.
